Board of Public Works Advances Agreement To Expand High-Speed Internet Access In Western Maryland

Maryland Broadband Cooperative and the State of Maryland have advanced a new resource-sharing agreement aimed at expanding high-speed internet access in underserved areas of Western Maryland. The deal gives the state access to about 26 miles of fiber optic cable in Allegany and Garrett counties, supporting homes, businesses, transportation systems, and community institutions while reducing infrastructure costs. Governor Wes Moore said the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to closing the digital divide and ensuring reliable internet access for residents, students, and businesses across the region.
